HousingCommunity-Based HIV Counseling and Testing

Carolina CARE Partnership's Non-Traditional Site (NTS) Testing and Counseling Program offers FREE and CONFIDENTIAL HIV and Syphilis testing at locations throughout the greater Charlotte region, including UNC-Charlotte, the Lesbian and Gay Community Center, Fifth Street Ministries, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, and the Carolinas CARE Partnership's office on Independence Boulevard.

For more information or to inquire about holding a testing event contact:
Darrin Johnson, Community HIV Prevention Coordinator
darrinj@carolinascare.org; 704.531.2467, ext. 26

or

Shannon Warren, Programs Director

Do you wonder if you should be tested? Take this quick quiz!
Am I At Risk?

  • Have you ever had oral, anal or vaginal sex without using a condom?
  • Has your partner ever had sex without using a condom?
  • Have you ever shared needles for using drugs, tattooing, piercing or any other reason?
  • Has your Partner ever shared needles for any reason?

If you answered YES to any of these questions you could have an STD and not know it!

We recommend that all sexually active individuals get tested at least once a year!

Our calendar lists testing opportunities available now. Come get tested at one of our sites, go to your local health department, or see your doctor. Take the test and take control of your health!

What you can expect when you get tested through the Carolinas CARE Partnership:

  • 3 forms to fill out – a registration form, a risk assessment form, and a consent form
  • A compassionate, well-qualified HIV Health Educator who will talk to you about your own personal risk and answer any questions you have about HIV, Syphilis, testing, etc.
  • A certified, trained phlebotomist who will draw a total of one tube of blood for HIV and Syphilis testing
  • A date when you can call or meet for your results, usually 3-4 weeks after the test

The Carolinas CARE Partnership does not generally provide rapid testing, though depending on availability and necessity, may occasionally have it available.

Many people are afraid of getting tested – they figure what they don't know won't hurt them, and there's nothing they can do anyway if they are HIV positive!

It's true that HIV can't be cured, but it can be managed. And, people who find out sooner rather than later that they are infected with HIV, are much more likely to get the care and treatment they need to live longer, healthier lives.

Substance Abuse Treatment Facility HIV Counseling and Testing

The Carolina CARE Partnership's Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Testing and Counseling Program offers FREE and CONFIDENTIAL HIV and Syphilis testing and education at treatment centers throughout the Charlotte area, including: Anuvia, McLeod Treatment Center (Mecklenburg and Gaston), McLeod Federal Halfway House, and Hope Haven.

In addition to free, confidential HIV and Syphilis testing, the Carolinas CARE Partnership offers a unique program at McLeod Addictive Disease Center, Inc. called P.R.O.T.E.C.T. Yourself! It is an HIV prevention & sexual harm reduction program designed specifically for individuals in Opioid Treatment. It provides participants with the knowledge, motivation, and skills they need to help facilitate their recovery and to make informed choices in order to reduce harm to themselves and others. The program consists of twelve 90 minute sessions that provide sexual harm reduction techniques, promote healthy lifestyle choices, and integrate the participants' spiritual needs into recovery. Participants who complete all 12 sessions will be eligible to participate in a graduation ceremony.
